Skills Workshops

Our multi-level Workshops help students to refine their abilities and vocabulary in one of many areas of relevance in the modern world. Students work together on micro-projects, and every week they present what they have produced to their friends in the rest of the school.

At both the Junior Summer Centre at Lord Wandsworth College and our WSE Juniors in Wimbledon course, students are able to choose a different Workshop each week or study the same one for the duration of the course.

Perfect for budding journalists and students with an inquisitive nature, these workshops: - Teach how to find and report on information - Work on interview and note-taking skills - Guide students in language used in newspaper and magazine articles - Enable students to produce a newsletter or podcast

For students who want to gain confidence in their public speaking, these workshops: - Raise awareness of voice and body language - Guide students in constructing and presenting their arguments - Help with planning presentations - Develop techniques for confidence in public speaking

For students who want to explore contemporary topics and issues affecting today’s young people, such as: • Social responsibility: thinking globally and acting locally • The future of work • Tools for positive mental health and wellbeing • Diversity and inclusion • Dealing with uncertainty and change

For students who see themselves as the next Steven Spielberg. In these workshops they: - Study techniques for camera shots - Learn about storyboarding and scriptwriting - Explore responsible ways of using social media - Produce short films to spark discussion
Film Making (LWC & WSE)zoom_in
For all budding football stars! Taught by professionals from Wycombe Wanderers FC, students will: - Study football theory including Team Work, Analysing a Match, Leadership, Nutrition (1.5 hours per week) - Improve their practical football skills (4.5 hours per week) - Students must enrol for a minimum of 2 weeks - Please note: There is a supplementary fee for this workshop

Ages 14 to 17. These workshops are designed for the many students who would like to study at a British University, and include: - Lessons on the UK university application system - The uses of academic English - The difference between seminars, lectures, and workshops - How to take notes for university lectures
Examination Techniques (LWC & WSE)zoom_in
For students who want to get the most out of being in London, these workshops investigate: • Legendary London musicians such as David Bowie, Stormzy, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Queen and so many more • World-class art, design, fashion and architecture from icons such as Alexander McQueen, Tracy Emin, and Sir Norman Foster • The influence of sub-cultures, from skateboarding and BMX to Banksy’s graffiti and Grime music • The city’s sporting heritage, including Wembley, Wimbledon, and Lord’s Cricket Ground
