It’s 1 year since we entered into the first lockdown in the UK, so what has life been like in London? Over the next few weeks, we’ll show you what our staff have been up to this past year…
Julie, our Accommodation Manager is also a homestay host for the school, so she has been welcoming students at various points throughout the year. Cooking is a big part of life at Julie’s home and her students & family get to enjoy everything from traditional British cuisines such as fish & chips, Cornish pasties and roast dinners to modern classics from around the world like tacos, stir-fries & pasta dishes. Yum!
Students who have arrived in London and have had to quarantine also get to enjoy Julie’s cooking. Julie provides home-cooked meals to students staying in our Queen’s Lodge residence close to the school. Take a look at some of Julie’s creations below:

Keeping active and entertained has been really important to keep spirits raised during lockdown.
Julie says "We often played games, words association and Scattergories to liven up our evenings and something to talk about. My students love this game we play..."
She also gets to spend time with her family & grandkids, whether it’s to donate to local food banks, celebrate World Book Day together or to climb trees :-)

Julie’s daughter is a primary school teacher and in one of their lessons, they took the time to appreciate those who were working so hard and write something nice and encouraging to NHS workers in St.George’s hospital in London.

Julie says “Our family have lived in Merton for 36 years and feel this is very much our community and that we should help and support each other in times of need. The saddest thing for me is that I have an 18-month-old granddaughter whom I’ve only been able to see three times!!! She is going to be smothered in love and kisses when I do get to see her."
