International House Trust Assessment expands its examination reach in a collaboration with the London Exam Centre
The London Exam Centre (part of Wimbledon School of English) and International House Trust Assessment (IHTA) have reached an agreement whereby from 1st September 2024 IHTA will manage the main exams in LEC’s portfolio, subject to examination board approval.
Wimbledon School of English opened its examination centre in 1978, offering the ‘UCLES’ (Cambridge English) CPE and FCE exams. It expanded its operations under the direction of Sandro Saviolo (WSE Operations and Examination Centre Director) and in 1986 was approved as a Cambridge open centre. It became the largest Cambridge open centre in the UK and added many other exams to its portfolio, including IELTS in 2008. The exam centre rebranded as the London Exam Centre in the early 2000s and moved into Tuition House Wimbledon in 2011, opening a designated computer testing centre in 2014.
WSE students, partners and examination stakeholders will continue to be served in the Wimbledon area with the local test locations and good customer service they are used to, under the management of IHTA.
Sandro Saviolo commented “This move makes perfect sense in an ever more competitive and complex examination delivery environment. IHTA has the experience, resources and delivery options to ensure that all stakeholders in south west London and Surrey, including our WSE students, will continue to have local access to a wide range of ELT and other examinations. We are happy to be moving our examinations operation to such a reputable organisation and we know they will continue to offer the same top quality service as LEC.”
Jason White, Director of Exams at IHTA added “We are excited about this new opportunity and the possibility to continue the excellent work of LEC in the South West London and Surrey areas. We are working closely with Sandro and the team to ensure a seamless transition. A key element will be to ensure that both WSE students and partners experience the same high quality examination experience they are used to with LEC.”
From 1st September the examinations will be managed from IHTA’s headquarters at International House London and LEC will no longer operate as an autonomous body.
